The Eastern Cambria County area sits atop the Allegheny Highlands in Cambria County, Pennsylvania. It is intersected by PA routes 53 and 36 and also US route 22. The area is located between Altoona to the East and Johnstown to the Southwest. The Eastern Cambria County area primarily consists of the following Boroughs and Townships: Boroughs include Ashville, Cresson, Gallitzin, Lilly, Loretto, Sankertown and Tunnelhill. Townships are Allegheny, Cresson, Dean, Gallitzin, Munster and Washington.
These communities make up the Penn Cambria School District.
The area was first settled by farmers who were followed by railroads and coal mines. Today the area is basically residential and farming and is also served by small businesses and light industry. The area is also home to two four year colleges and a federal prison.
